Your Mess Is Mine

I don’t trust people who follow their hearts. Hearts are peculiar things. They’re necessary muscles that keep us alive by pumping blood and oxygen into our veins. Hearts are also compulsory, often making us foolish. They pull us towards others with a force that aches, burns, and satiates you all at once. Before you know it that mass of tissue is no longer yours.
Maybe mine never was.
In my case, that draw came from a stranger that left my heart feeling both fulfilled and consumed.
I didn’t expect to fight her for the last standby seat to New York City. I didn’t plan on letting her get under my skin. Or the way her vulnerability tore me up inside and compelled me to care for her. She didn’t plan on letting me witness her chaos.
Her anxious heart and my perfectionist mind let things get messy.
And though we didn’t plan for it, our interrupting of each others’ lives was exactly what we needed.
Sometimes the mess is the most beautiful part of life.
We opted for dessert wine and some cheese instead of traditional sweets. The more wine she had the more unfiltered Margo became. She wasn’t exactly holding back in the first place, but her last semblance of restraint melted away.
After paying for dinner, we walked out into the cold fall night. I wanted to take Margo somewhere I knew would make her nervous. Mostly, I wanted to push her to that point of no control to see if I could at least hold her again in some way. Any touch was better than none.
Sure, it was fucked up of me to purposely make her nervous, but I was desperate. And where in the past I would have blatantly flirted and tiptoed over lines with women, I didn’t want to do that with her. I wanted her to come to me. There was something about letting things unfold naturally that pushed me to be on my best behavior.
It wasn’t easy though. She’d lick her lips, beckoning me to look at them. Her tongue danced over her crimson lips, inducing a jolt of arousal that shocked through my entire body and ended in my cock. Images of what her naked body and imaginings of how she sounded when she came flooded my mind. I couldn’t take it any longer. If I got her in bed, I wouldn’t need foreplay. I probably wouldn’t last very long either. Wouldn’t that be painfully unfortunate?
In her tipsiness, she allowed me to put my arm around her waist as we walked. We’d done so in silence till I continued down some subway stairs. She jolted to a stop at the top and shoved against my arms. “Fuck no!”
Despite trying to pull her forward, she slithered out of my grasp. “Come on, you gotta do it if you’re going to live here, Margo.”
I took two steps down, leaving us at eye level.
Her eyes turned glassy, and they couldn’t focus on me. She’d dart from my eyes to the half-lit buildings, or at the people ignoring her odd reaction. “I don’t have to do it today, Hudson. I may not move at all….”
“Do you trust me?”
She hesitated, again looking around at her options for running away before eventually giving in.
“Then come here, I’ll take care of you,” I said, the truth of my words surprising me.
Reaching out to her, I waited for her to join me. She tilted her head and assessed me, staring into my eyes before lowering her gaze to my lips then throat. Was she that afraid of the subway? Or was it the offer of my hand?
I think it was my words. On the plane the night before, Margo looked at me with such surprise. Sure, we’d bickered, but I’d helped her, and she probably hadn’t expected that. Maybe she’d never trusted anyone and didn’t know why she wanted to trust me. Just like I didn’t know why I wanted her so desperately, or struggled with that same unexpected confusion I couldn’t silence.
Clasping my hand, she followed me to the automated machine downstairs where I purchased two one-way tickets. We approached the platform, and every little noise startled her. It was kind of cute to see her conquering her fears, but what impressed me was her need to prove herself to both of us. We boarded the over-filled train and had no option but to stand towards the back of the cart. With so many people around, we were squashed close together. I could feel the warmth radiating off her flawless skin. I could smell the remains of her incense and roses perfume that tempted me to lean in and press my nose and lips against her soft throat. The wine had also left me a little unhinged, stealing touches here and there. And she let me. Not once did she address my hand gripping her lower back whenever the train turned.
As if the universe could hear my plea, the train pulled out of the next station with a quick jerk and Margo’s body propelled into mine. I caught her and wrapped my arms awkwardly around her waist. We were sealed together: her breasts on my lower chest, her torso leaning against my stomach and belt, the apex of her legs just barely cupping the center of my groin. I started hardening immediately, and I doubt it went unnoticed. All my hard edges were at home against her softness.
I couldn’t help myself.
I pressed my lips to the top of her head and leaned over her. Holding my breath, I waited for her reaction to my brash affection, but she gave me back something I hadn’t expected. She looked up at me and smiled. It was wide and brazen like her others, but it was also laced with a twinge of sadness. She whispered one thing. “You.”
To which I replied, “Me?”
Margo nodded and pulled the collar of my shirt down before pressing her lips against my neck. They opened and left wet traces of her along my skin. It felt like fire—painful, searing, and warm. I wanted all of her, and I hoped that was Margo’s way of telling me she wanted the same.
The train stopped and so did she. When she saw Times Square again, she inhaled deeply, the way someone does after swimming underwater for too long. With a squeeze of her shoulder, I led her straight into our hotel; the sooner I got her in private, the better. The elevator music was accompanied with my heartbeat and the machinery groaning around us. I could see all the ways I wanted to please her so clearly in my head, and every nerve ending in my body was burning with the need to touch her.
But I couldn’t. I wasn’t sure I could go through with it.
Have you ever had a moment so perfect that you don’t want to do anything to fuck it up? That night with the girl in the dress and Chucks was a string of perfect moments all dangling together in my mind. Despite assuming I’d never see Margo again, I still didn’t want to risk messing up the image I’d always have of her. It just didn’t seem right, at least not if I initiated it. I didn’t want her rejection to taint the pedestal she’d earned in my mind.
While I watched her walking ahead of me, I thought about making any move I could. I thought about kissing her again and seeing where it went. I considered just bluntly telling her I wanted to be inside her. Maybe she’d have liked that. But as she slid the key into her room door, I remained frustratingly mute. Margo turned and looked at me with heavy eyelids and flushed cheeks. In a raspy whisper, she said words I’d been dying to hear.
“Do you want to come in?”
“Really?” I stepped back. The desperation I had for her sincerity was drowning me in doubt.
Margo moved closer, pressing her soft center against my firm one. With her hand against my throat, feeling my pounding heartbeat beneath my stubble-laden skin, she looked up at me. Her gaze was penetrating and flooded with desire.
“Hudson, we’ve been eye-fucking each other all night, let’s be honest now. I’m dying to know what you’ll do to me if I let you.”
With that admission, I became someone else. An animal. A tempted addict. A man craving only her. Grabbing her arm, I pushed her in and shut the door by slamming her against the back of it. She looked up with the most evocative grin and hummed in approval. Looking down at her, I grabbed her neck and wrapped my fingers around it.
“You have no idea what I’ve imagined tonight thanks to this fucking dress and that delicious mouth.”
Before she could reply, I sealed my lips against hers. There was no turning back.

Only For A Night

Only For A Night
by Naima Simone
Series: The Lick Series, Book 1
Genre: Erotic Contemporary Romance

Publisher: Entangled Publishing

Release Date: May 30, 2016

One night would never be enough…

Rion Ward fought hard to be free of the Irish mob life. Now, as the co-owner of Boston’s hottest aphrodisiac club, he’s traded crime for the ultimate sexual fantasy. But when the “good girl” from his past walks through Lick’s doors, he discovers that his unconsummated hunger for her never abated.

Widowed for two years from a man who felt that anything besides the missionary position was dirty, Harper Shaw is ready to move on. The first step to feeling alive again is sex. Hot, dirty, black-out-from-orgasm sex. And who better to provide it than the brooding, sexy, tatted bad boy-turned-man she’s known for years?

Rion, however, has one stipulation: He’ll be hers only for one night. One night to explore her every fantasy. One night to push her limits.  One night to introduce her to a passion that makes both doubt if it will be enough…

“What are you doing here?” The deep, midnight voice sliced through the memories, and Harper willingly locked the vault on them. Rion’s velvet tone slid over her exposed skin like a velvet caress, resonating in her chest, curling in her belly—and lower. “I asked you a question,” he said, the demand silky but no less menacing.
“I-I came here to speak with y-you,” she stammered. God, she sounded like an idiot. “I hoped we could talk.”
A black eyebrow arched high. “Talk,” he enunciated, a corner of his sensual mouth curling into a faintly sardonic sneer. “What could you and I possibly have to talk about?”
“I—” She peered over his shoulder, for the first time noticing the blond giant standing behind Rion. Sasha. Sasha Merchant. A close friend of Rion’s. “Would you mind if we… Can we speak in private?”
“No.”
She reeled back on her death-defying heels, teetering before grabbing the table tighter. “No?” she repeated. Seconds of silence passed between them. Irritation warred with mortification, and she tilted her chin in spite of the heat rushing up her throat and into her face. “That’s it? Just no?”
“Yes.”
She sighed, exasperated. “Rion…”
“Go home,” he interrupted, the order unyielding, hard. Dismissive.
“Rion, please,” she murmured, cringing at the plea that crept into her voice.
“Sasha, would you mind escorting her safely to her car?” He turned, again disregarding her without hearing her out.
Anger shoved the hurt aside, surging hot and hard inside her. She’d been dismissed, shelved, or patronized too often in her life. She’d also been mute, opting to remain silent, not rock the boat. Not voice her needs, her wants…her desires. Well, that time had passed.
She was tired of living—no, existing—in a cocoon that was supposed to be safe but was really suffocating.
And he didn’t get to push her back into that cocoon.
Aiming a dark scowl at Rion, Sasha stepped forward, his hand extended toward her. “Sorry, sweetheart—”
“Wait a minute,” she snarled, skirting past Sasha and latching onto Rion’s arm, ignoring the sexy flex of muscle beneath her fingers and palm. Rion froze, probably in surprise rather than from her hold. “We were friends for a long time. Too long for you to just toss me aside like a stranger. Okay it’s been five years since we’ve seen one another. You can at least give me five seconds.”
Slowly, Rion pivoted, dislodging her hand. Staring up into his lean face with its stark lines and stormy eyes, she shivered. Fear had picked a fine time to remind her the absolute stupidity of stirring a predator.
“Five seconds.” He slid his hands in his pants pockets.
“Thank you.” She sighed, relieved. “If we could just—”
“Three,” he stated, his tone past bored and veering into catatonic.
“I need you,” she blurted. Damn. Oh God. Just…damn.
His eyes narrowed. “What do you need me for?”
“I can’t—” Panic crawling up her throat, she shot a glance at Sasha who didn’t even pretend not to be absorbed with the scene playing out before him. “Rion,” she whispered.
“Two seconds.”
“Damn it. Sex. I need you for sex.”
For the first time, Rion lost his stoicism, shock widening his eyes and parting his lips. Beside him, Sasha sounded as if he were being strangled, and her? She squeezed her eyes shut, flames bursting inside her, consuming her in a conflagration of humiliation. Jesus Christ. Was death by mortification possible?
“Oh f**k,” she groaned.
“Yeah,” Rion drawled. “I got that.”
Yes. Definitely possible.

However, a trip to petition the Steward at Brighthelme turns disastrous when the Beasts, fearsome warriors from the frozen north, raze the city. When Wynne is carried away, she’s determined to regain her freedom but Rune, her captor, has other ideas.

Beast is set in Prydain, an imaginary place that combines Anglo-Saxon England with Medieval England, the Teutonic Kingdom and the Viking Age. This story contains kidnapping, rape, dubious consent and graphic violence, however, it is a love story rather than a dark romance. It is a standalone novel; no cliff-hangers.

He stuck the knife in the ground and stripped off his leathers. The tunic came off, revealing a long, lean, muscled torso, covered in tattoos. Snakes ran up and down his arms, his pecs and his shoulders. A skull blazed on his chest.
Then he was pushing apart my legs, settling between my thighs, leaning over me. He smelled of smoke, leather and musk. It was terrifying, like being at the mercy of an animal.

Books by AJ Adams

Crime, Romance, Passion, Fantasy – AJ Adams mixes it up in explosive stories.
*TCOI’s REVIEW FOR BEAST*

This book is everything I would expect from this author. You get an intriguing story, interesting characters, and lovely dark sexy bits.

A deal gone bad leaves a group described as Beasts set on retribution, and a girl named Wynne fighting for her life. Who would have thought going into town to clear her name would have landed her captured by the Beasts, and especially not falling in love with one.

There was one thing that threw me off, and that was Rune. As much as I loved the hotness building between Wynne and Rune, I found myself going back and forth with this character. One moment Rune was barbaric and the next he was the civilized level headed one. There is another character in the book that seemed to take it to the extremes too, and I’m looking forward to seeing if there will be stories for the other characters.

I really enjoyed this read. I will definitely be anxiously waiting for AJ Adams next, as always. The Color of Ink received a copy of this recommended read in exchange for an honest review. Enjoy!

It took a long moment for a response, but when it did it sounded like nails on a chalkboard. “I’m here to see my daughter. But I could ask ya the same thing. Ya know, darling, God doesn’t really approve of homosexuality.” Irate, Kate turned her head and stared into the eyes of Gloria Westwood. Dressed in her light pink, pressed Chanel skirt suit with satin low heels to match, Gloria was the only woman Kate knew who would wear nylon stockings in Florida. The short, auburn hair was sprayed together with a can of hairspray, and her makeup was perfectly thick enough to cover the years of bigotry and hate that she supported while her husband preached it to the masses. The “click, click” sound of her perfect manicured nails on the set of pearls that she wore every day of her life drove Kate mad.

Sheriff Blake Gatlin has moved to rural Montana for a fresh start. When he meets Brandyne, a single mom of five who’s struggling to make ends meet, he’s determined to be the only man to help her out.

A Promise of Forever

Chapter 1

Brandyne Parker was most noted for her starring role in a Christmas pageant at the age of six. She had been voted head of student council in middle school and most likely to succeed at the age of fourteen. She had a mother and a father, who’d also had six other mouths to feed. She, being the eldest and the wisest, as her mother had pointed out, only had to follow some common sense: stay focused at school, work hard, and don’t fall for some no-good dreamer. After all, Brandyne had everything, brains and beauty, and she was expected to be homecoming queen in high school, which would only have opened more doors for her. The problem was that everything changed the day she met William, or rather Willy, Barkley. It had all started one sunny June day when Brandyne’s good friend talked her, against her better judgement, into cutting biology class and slipping off to the rodeo that was in town for the weekend.
Truth be told, this was the first time she’d skipped, but her favorite teacher, Mr. Rheaume, had been away sick, and instead Mrs. Potter, an old woman with thick glasses and a bad attitude, cranky as all hell, was filling in. Because of that one moment in time, Brandyne’s bright future slipped away. Yes, all her goals, her carefully charted plans, got tossed out the window because of a cocky smile, a handsome face, and the skintight wranglers of one cowboy riding the broncs. Add in a beer or two, and their chemistry was off the charts. She let him sweet talk her into the back of his pickup at a pullout at the edge of town, and she not only lost her virginity but fell head over heels for a rodeo star. Nine months later, she had Rita, the first of five, in Sweet Rock, Wyoming, at the age of eighteen. Rita was now fifteen years old, and she had been followed by Colton, now fourteen, Hadley, now ten, Nora, now six, and Emma, now four. Each had been born on the road in a different town, a different place, each a symbol of another rodeo lost.
But Brandyne and Willy were far from a love story. Willy followed the rodeo circuit, and Brandyne tagged along, living in tents, trailers, whatever Willy could find as he chased the buckle, the booze, and, if she was honest, the women. Soon he became a washed-up rodeo star, dumping Brandyne and their five kids in Columbia Falls at a local park and promising he’d be right back after he took care of a few things. Now, almost a year later, she hadn’t set eyes on him again.
“Mama, where’s that white blouse of mine?” Rita asked. Her eldest had stunning dark hair, an oval face, and long legs—the image of Brandyne as a teen. Unfortunately, she was also far too boy crazy for her own good.
“It’s hanging out back on the line,” Brandyne called out from the small living room in the older three-bedroom house where she lived rent free, courtesy of a nice older couple from the community church. Her new friends Kim and Bruce Siegel and Andy and Laura Friessen were also all about helping out when they could, and this house and all their assistance had come at a time when Brandyne couldn’t have sunk much lower. With not a dime to her name after Willy had cut and run, she’d been found squatting in a rundown shack behind Andy’s place with her children by the sheriff, Blake Gatlin, a man who had terrified her before surprising her with his kindness.
No, Brandyne knew she needed more time to figure things out, to get back on her feet, to keep her kids fed and try to make sense of this mess. She was folding clothes, making three piles, one for clothes the kids had grown out of and two for everything else that needed patching, from holes in the knees to tears. The smallest pile would be the clean clothes that still fit, which she could put away for her kids.
“Mama, how come Rita is going out on a school night?” asked Hadley, who was looking more and more like his daddy every day, with his big blue eyes and square jaw and a stubbornness that reminded her he was his father’s son.
“She’s not going out on a school night. Whatever would give you that idea, anyway? Now put these clothes away and help me out here so I can get dinner finished,” she said as Emma raced into the living room barefoot, wearing only her underwear. Her brown curls were a tired mess, and freckles dotted her face. “Where are your clothes? You turn around and go put them on right now. Nora?” she called out. Her second youngest was supposed to have been watching Emma.
“She is going out, Mama,” Hadley said. “I overheard her on the bus today from school making plans with Mark Overland, and they said they were meeting at the Tasty Freeze after supper.”
Brandyne stared down at Hadley as Nora walked in. She could hear Rita and Colton, both teenagers, arguing about something. “You must have heard wrong.”
“What is it, Mama?” Nora asked. Her shoulder-length mop of hair was in need of washing, and her faded yellow t-shirt was too small.
“I thought I told you to watch your sister. Why is she running around half naked?”
“She won’t keep her clothes on! She keeps pulling them off. Why don’t you make her keep them on? She won’t listen to me,” Nora said, frowning.
Of course Nora didn’t want to watch her sister. For a moment the scene reminded Brandyne of her and her own siblings—and of her mother, who’d struggled to keep things together. Dirt poor seemed to be a legacy she was proudly continuing. Brandyne reached for a yellow nightgown folded in the pile on the sofa and grabbed her youngest to pull the thin gown over her head. “Rita!” she called out as a lock of hair dangled in her eyes, coming free from the messy bun she wore.
“What?” Rita said.
Brandyne glanced over to see her eldest in a nice white blouse, her dark hair brushed straight, a hint of blush on her cheeks as she stood with her siblings. “What is this I’m hearing about you planning to go out, and on a school night, no less?” she said just as Emma grabbed her leg and started bouncing. She heard a sizzle from the tiny kitchen and knew the potatoes she’d put on had just boiled over. “Oh no…” She reached down and lifted Emma into the tattered old brown easy chair that had come with the furnished house, and she raced to the kitchen and lifted the lid from the boiling pot, then turned the burner of the old yellow stove to low.
“I’m just meeting my friends for an hour or so,” Rita said, having followed her into the small galley kitchen. Its white cupboards and brown wallpaper were at least three decades old.
“Sheriff’s here, Mama,” Colton called out.
Brandyne heard voices and the door squeaking. “Were you not planning on asking?” she said. “What’s going through your head there, girl?”
She opened the oven door and took a look at the chicken legs, which appeared done. She slipped on a pair of blue hot mitts and lifted out the casserole dish, just one of many items the church people had pitched in and donated. She’d never expected this kindness from strangers. Even the sheriff stopped in often just to check and see how she was doing, as he said— to chat, to listen. Every time he seemed to come bearing something. Just the week before it had been used bikes for the kids, and the week before that, the church had donated a box of food, a grocery mart gift card, and some bounty from someone’s garden. Blake was always a bearer of kindness from the townspeople.
“Of course I was going to ask you, but you were busy, as you usually are, and I was waiting until dinner before bothering you.”
Little arms reached around her leg and grabbed hold again.
“Here, be helpful and take your sister off my hands for a bit,” Brandyne said, handing Emma to Rita as Hadley and Colton slid into the kitchen. Just then, the sheriff appeared behind them. He had thick dark hair and handsome features, not a pretty boy but a man who took things seriously, tall and lean and solid. He looked damn fine in just about anything he wore.
Rita didn’t say a word, just huffed out a breath and stomped out, holding her sister’s hand and all but dragging her. All Brandyne could do was gesture helplessly to where Rita had walked out before pointing at the boys. “Go get washed up for dinner and then set the table for me.”
Then there was no one in the kitchen but her and the sheriff, a man who, over the past year, had stopped in often to see how she was doing, whether she needed anything. He had been a friend, a confidant, but the chemistry that zinged between them was, at times, like lightning. Not once had he ever crossed a line with her, though. It was a pity, but then, what could she expect? At her age, with a houseful of kids, she had baggage that could fill a semi.
“Looks like you’ve got your hands full,” he said.
All she could think was Yeah, any man in his right mind would keep his distance.

#Three

Title : Three
Author: S.C. Daiko
Gernre: Erotic Romance

I shouldn’t want this,
shouldn’t want them, and I definitely shouldn’t want all the dirty things they
do
not just to me but to each other.
Except I do want it.
I want it so bad I
can’t keep my head straight.
Why does dirty have to
feel so damn good?
It’s lust, simple as
that. No strings, just two guys, a girl and a whole lot of filth.
I can handle that.
Sure I can.
No big deal… it’s not
like I’m going to fall for them or anything, right?
